OpenAI announced a set of ChatGPT features aimed squarely at office collaboration during its DevDay developer conference in San Francisco, as reported by TechCrunch.
The centerpiece is Space, a shared workspace inside ChatGPT where colleagues work alongside Dots — OpenAI's newly launched AI agent personas capable of carrying out tasks on a user's behalf. CEO Sam Altman described Space as holding "pages and files" the way a drive would, but said users can give a page specific instructions, such as monitoring a team channel and updating the page with what it finds.
Alongside Space, OpenAI launched Pages, a word processor built for what the company calls human-and-agent collaboration. Inside Pages, users can write, research, generate charts, create images or visualize information — positioning it as a direct alternative to Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
OpenAI also unveiled collaborative Slides, created simply by talking through the content within ChatGPT. Once generated, multiple people and agents can edit the slides together and leave comments. Slides has not launched yet; an OpenAI representative said it will roll out in the coming weeks.
The launch pushes OpenAI further into workplace software territory long held by Microsoft, a close partner of the AI lab. Microsoft and other software vendors, including Salesforce, have spent the past year adding their own AI features in response to the shifting competitive landscape.
