Choosing an AI SEO agency

Every agency in this category will show you a share-of-voice number. Almost none will tell you how many times they asked the question, what the number does when a section could not be measured, or let you read a report they did not choose. Those are the answers that separate a measurement from a dashboard, so this page starts with them rather than with us.

Five questions to ask any of us

Scope of work5
  • 01How many times do you ask each question?A model's answer is not deterministic. One draw per question and engine is a single roll of a die reported as a rate — and it is what most tooling in this category does, because it is four times cheaper. Ask for the sample size per cell and for an interval around the number. If neither exists, the number has no error bar and cannot be compared to next month's.
  • 02What happens to the score when something cannot be measured?A provider times out, an engine declines to return its sources, a SERP check fails. Scoring those zero is the easy choice and it is wrong — it reports absence as a bad result. Ask what the score does. Ours drops the unmeasured weight and prints how much of the total was actually measured, which is why a real report of ours reads "50 of 100 weight, low confidence".
  • 03Which engines, and can each one answer both questions?"Were you named" and "was your site cited" are different measurements, and not every engine answers both. Gemini has no search grounding available through the routes an API reaches, so it can be asked the first and not the second. An agency that reports a citation rate across four engines without saying which of them abstained is averaging in silence.
  • 04Can I read a report you did not pick?Sample reports are chosen. Ask to see one that is not flattering, or better, ask whether they publish their own. We publish ours: a full run against a site we own, unedited, scoring 46 out of 100 with a share of voice of zero — and it is on the site, not in a deck.
  • 05What do you do when nothing needs fixing? An agency paid to find work will find work. Ask what a report looks like when the site is already retrievable, the entity already resolves and the gap is that nobody outside writes about the company — because that is a real outcome, and the honest answer to it is not a retainer. Ours says so and points at the thing that would actually move: being described by sources an engine already trusts.

What is different here

  • The arithmetic is published: every section weight, and what the total does when a section fails
  • A free measurement before anything is bought, with the plan attached whether or not you hire anyone
  • Our own report in public, including the parts that make us look bad
  • Sampling with an interval, not one draw per question reported as a rate
  • Every finding names the file or the page it came from

Agency, or nobody

Most of what an AI visibility engagement does is technical repair with a name attached to each item. That is worth saying out loud before you hire anyone, including us.

Do it without an agency

  • Run the free check and read the plan — every finding names the file it came from
  • The crawler policy is the item to check twice: what robots.txt allows and what the CDN does to the request are different questions
  • The schema graph and the identity files have to agree, or the entity reads as two companies
  • Pages that exist only after the browser runs are a rendering decision, not a copy one
  • Then measure again on the same prompt set, because a repair nobody re-measured is an opinion
Visibility Sprint

Hire for it

  • The same repairs inside one to two weeks rather than between other work
  • Opening and closing audits on the same prompt set, so any claimed change is a number visible on both
  • Nothing in the plan is withheld if you read it and decide to do it yourself

Not for you if

Where this is the wrong buy3
  • You want a monthly number that always goes up. Share of voice moves with what the rest of the web publishes about you, and an honest report has months where it does not move at all.
  • You want us to publish on your behalf. This repairs what an engine can retrieve and resolve; it does not write your content, and no amount of publishing fixes a crawler policy that shuts the engines out.
  • You need a date by which a model will name you. The technical repairs land in days and the closing audit shows them. When an engine starts naming you is not ours to promise, and an agency that promises it is guessing.

Asked before anyone hires for this

Is an AI SEO agency the same thing as a GEO agency?
The vocabulary differs more than the work. GEO — generative engine optimization — names the assistant surface, AI SEO tends to be used for the same work described from the search side. Whoever you hire, ask what they measure rather than what they call it.
Do we need this if our SEO is already good?
Good SEO is most of the prerequisite and not the whole job. The failure modes that are specific here are retrieval and identity: a page that ranks can still be unreadable to an engine that only gets the server HTML, and a company an engine cannot resolve does not get named even when its pages are found.
How is this measured if engines do not report rankings?
By asking them. The buyer's questions go to each engine repeatedly, and the answers are counted: how often the brand is named, in what position among the brands mentioned, whether its own domain comes back as a cited source, and who takes the space when it does not.
What does it cost?
The measurement is free and the plan comes with it. The repair engagement is a fixed fee for one to two weeks, and monthly upkeep exists for sites that keep changing. Prices are on the pricing page rather than behind a call.
Next step

Start with the measurement, not the contract

Thirty minutes on your own numbers: which of the five questions above your current measurement can answer, what the gap looks like on your site, and whether closing it is a one-to-two-week repair or something slower.
