Intuit buys AI billing startup Sequence, reportedly for $200M

Short answer

Intuit has acquired Sequence, a London and New York startup founded in 2021 that uses AI to automate billing, payments and revenue management. The Times puts the price at around $200m; that figure is unconfirmed by the companies in the source. Sequence's customers now have a new owner behind their billing tool.

What this means for operators

If your invoicing or revenue process runs on Sequence, the source says nothing about changes to the product, pricing or contracts, so ask your account contact in writing what the acquisition means for your plan and support terms. If you use any small AI billing or payments tool, record who owns it, when your contract renews and how you would export your data. An ownership change is the moment to check that, before it becomes urgent.

Intuit, the US software company, has bought Sequence, a fintech that applies AI to business billing, payments and revenue management. Tech.eu reported the deal, citing the Times for a sale value of around $200m. The price is a media estimate, and the source does not include a figure confirmed by either company.

What Sequence does

Sequence was founded in 2021 and operates from London and New York. It automates the billing side of a company: invoicing, payments and the management of revenue. Its customers include the startups Legora and Cognition.

Who is behind it

The company was co-founded by Riya Grover, previously at Deutsche Bank and the CEO and co-founder of Feedr, a food tech startup that Compass acquired in 2020 in a $24m deal. The other co-founder is Eamon Jubbawy, who co-founded the ID software provider Onfido, sold for $650m in 2024, and who also runs the climate startup Isometric.

According to the Times, Grover holds more than 45 per cent of Sequence and Jubbawy more than 15 per cent. Sequence raised around $40m in total. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Passion Capital, firstminute capital and 645 Ventures.

Grover called the deal a "huge milestone" and said that being part of Intuit would let Sequence operate at a bigger scale.

What the source does not say

The report does not describe what happens to Sequence as a standalone product, whether it will be folded into an Intuit offering, or whether pricing and plans will change. It also gives no timeline for the deal closing. Treat any assumptions about integration as unconfirmed until Intuit or Sequence publish details.

What to do now

Customers should watch for official communication from Sequence about the product's future and read any notice about changes to terms. Companies that depend on a small AI vendor for money-handling workflows should keep a current export of their billing data and know the notice period in their contract.
