INITE Lens privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-10-18

INITE Lens is a Chrome extension made by INITE. This page covers the extension only; the site inite.ai is covered by our Privacy Policy. Most of what Lens does happens inside your browser and is never sent anywhere.

01

The short version

Lens reads a page only when you ask it to: when you open its popup, or on the sites of a feature you switched on yourself. It sends inite.ai two things: the domain of the site you opened the popup on, to look up its INITE Atlas card, and three usage events that say what happened but not on which site. Everything else stays in your browser. We do not collect your browsing history, the contents of pages, what you type, or your conversations with AI assistants. We sell nothing and show no ads.
02

Checking the open site

When you open the popup, Lens checks how AI search reads the site in the current tab. It asks that site, from your browser and without your cookies, for its robots.txt, its llms.txt, the page itself and a few paths that say whether crawlers are let in. The results are worked out in the popup and shown to you. None of it is sent to INITE. The popup gets access to the tab through Chrome's activeTab permission: only the tab you opened it on, and only at that moment.
03

The Atlas card

To show what the INITE Atlas knows about the site, Lens sends its domain (for example, notion.com) and your interface language to inite.ai/api/atlas. The request carries no cookies and no address beyond the domain. Our server answers with the public card, the same one anyone can open on inite.ai.
04

Usage events

Lens sends inite.ai three events, so we know whether it is used at all: • lens_checked: a site was checked, with the verdict (for example, "partial"); • lens_atlas_card: an Atlas card was looked up, and whether one was found; • lens_audit_clicked: you clicked through to the full audit, and from where (the popup or Google Maps). None of them names the site. They are sent with your inite.ai cookies, if you have any, which is how our site analytics tells one visitor from another; the Cookie notice lists them. Clicking through to the full audit opens inite.ai/analyze with the site's address in it: from that point you are on our site, and its Privacy Policy applies.
05

Google Maps score (off until you turn it on)

If you switch it on, Lens asks Chrome for access to www.google.com. On a business's page in Google Maps it reads what Maps shows about the place (rating, reviews, opening hours, website, whether the owner claimed it, and its place in the search you made) and scores it in your browser with the INITE analyzer's rules. The score is shown over the map. Nothing about the place is sent to INITE. Turning the switch off, or removing the permission in Chrome, stops it.
06

Which sites AI answers cite (off until you turn it on)

If you switch it on, Lens asks Chrome for access to chatgpt.com, www.perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, claude.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and www.google.com. On those sites it notes which domains each answer links to as sources, and outlines your own domains if you entered them in the settings. For each answer it keeps the assistant's name, the time, the cited domains, and the conversation's address, so the same answer is not counted twice; on Google that address includes what you searched for. It does not keep the text of answers or of your questions. This record lives in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local), at most the last 300 answers. It is never sent to INITE. The popup shows the tally and has a button that clears it.
07

What is kept in your browser

In chrome.storage.local: which features you switched on, the domains you entered as yours, and the AI-answer record described above. Removing the extension deletes all of it.
08

Limited use

The use of information received through Lens follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use it only to provide the features described here. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, use it to decide creditworthiness, or let people read it, except where the law requires.
09

How long we keep it, and your rights

Usage events are kept with the rest of inite.ai's analytics, as our Privacy Policy describes, and can be deleted on request together with them. Atlas card requests are not stored with anything that identifies you. To ask what we hold, or to have it deleted, write to [email protected]. Your rights under GDPR, LGPD, CCPA and Russian law are listed in our Privacy Policy.

Changes

If a new version of Lens reads or sends anything not listed here, this page changes before that version is published, and the date at the top changes with it.
